Pine Canyon’s primary amenity is its signature championship golf course designed by golf course architect Jay Morrish. The private 18-hole golf course, a par-71 measuring 7,223 yards, opened in 2004. The 19th hole, an 85-yard par 3, is a peninsula green across from a pond that finishes at the steps of the Pine Canyon Clubhouse. This course has already been recognized by numerous national golf and lifestyle publications, including Golf Digest, Golfweek, Luxury Living and Estates West Golf Living.
The new 35,000-square-foot Pine Canyon Clubhouse, which won a Gold Nugget Award in 2007 for Best Public/Private Use Facility, adheres to the community’s unique architectural style. The ruggedly impressive mountain-lodge interior is enhanced by vaulted ceilings of heavy, exposed timber trusses. Marsh & Associates, Inc., recipient of numerous architecture and interior design awards, designed the two-story Clubhouse to blend with the environment of the community.<0>
Clubhouse amenities feature a fully stocked golf shop, and superbly appointed men’s and women’s lounges with lockers, a 1,600-square-foot fitness center offering spa services, game tables, whirlpools and a steam room. The Club also has a private dining room, mixed-grill restaurant, and separate cocktail lounge. With 1,700 bottles, the wine room offers members the unique option of having their own private wine list.
Camp Pine Canyon broke ground in 2007 and is scheduled for completion in Spring 2008. The facility, located adjacent to the Pine Canyon Clubhouse, will offer casual dining and a series of three pools, including a kids pool with water features, a lap pool and a covered toddler pool. Other amenities include a kids recreation area and two tennis courts. In addition, Trout Creek Park, with a kids play area, fishing pond and stream, hiking trails and dog park, will open Summer 2007.
Pine Canyon Club Offers Enviable Lifestyle in Flagstaff
New Clubhouse Rounds Out Superb Amenities
With the opening of the Pine Canyon Clubhouse, the Pine Canyon Club has reached a new level of splendor in the cool pines of Flagstaff.Adjacent to Coconino National Forest, this well-appointed golf community offers residents the space and time to reconnect with loved ones, create memories, and enjoy nature at its finest.
Wrapped in the rustic beauty of high-country forest, The Pine Canyon Club’s primary draw is its signature championship golf course designed by golf course architect Jay Morrish. The course has been recognized by numerous national golf and lifestyle publications.
At the center of the private community is the 35,000-square-foot Clubhouse, a showcase building that adheres to the community’s unique architectural style. Constructed of Telluride stone, copper, slate roof and rough-hewn wood chinking, the ruggedly impressive mountain-lodge interior is enhanced by vaulted ceilings of heavy, exposed timber trusses.
It features a fully stocked golf shop, and superbly appointed men’s and women’s lounges with lockers, game tables, whirlpools and a steam room. Spa services include manicures, pedicures, massages and facials. Meanwhile, the fitness center’s 1,700-square-foot exercise room features more than 25 cardio and weight lifting machines. Panoramic views of the 18th hole surrounded by water inspire residents to a healthy lifestyle. The Club has a private dining room, mixed-grill restaurant, and separate cocktail lounge. With 1,700 bottles, the wine room offers members a unique option of having their own private wine list.
It’s the golf though, that makes Pine Canyon an unforgettable experience, captivating members and guests with changing elevations, lush fairways, dramatic vistas of the nearby San Francisco Peaks, and aesthetic yet strategic use of trout-stocked lakes, ponds and cascading streams. Opened in 2004, the course has already been recognized nationally. Ranked in Golf Digest’s “Top 10 New Private Golf Courses in 2005,” Pine Canyon Club is the only course west of the Mississippi included in the top 10. It has also been rated one of “America’s Best Residential Golf Courses– Course of Distinction” by Golfweek and one of the “10 Best New Private Courses” for 2004 by Travel & Leisure Golf Magazine.
“There are a lot of things that sets the course apart from others,” Jay Morrish said. “An architect hopes for three things when he finds a piece of property. One is a pleasant change of terrain. The second is a lot of trees and the third is the potential for water. Pine Canyon had all those characteristics. The terrain was such that in this alpine setting everything just fell into place.”
A par 71 that plays to 7,223 yards from the back tees, the strength of the course is arguably its versatility. A minimum of six tees at every hole accommodate players of all ability. And forgiving, generous landing areas framed by mature Ponderosa pines add to its playability and aesthetics. Morrish, who subscribes to the “old school” style of architecture, designed most of the holes with an opening in front, believing the ball should be bounced onto the green if that is what the shot demands. The greens are gentle in contour and the bunkers not overly penal.
Morrish fell in love with the setting. “It looks so natural,” he said. “And it’s much more walkable than anything in the area—and that’s how golf ought to be played.”
The best stretch of holes is found toward the end of the round.
No. 14 is a 386-yard par 4 with a lone fairway bunker and a Ponderosa pine, which was left smack dab in front of the entry to the green. Not surprisingly, it was named “Lone Tree.” No. 15 is a 445-yard dogleg left par 4 and No. 16, called “Dawson’s Creek,” is water-laden, risk-reward, 595-yard dogleg left par 5. The penultimate hole, called “Sweet Serenity,” is a challenging 204-yard par 3 with spectacular mountain views. Finally, No. 18, called “The Peaks,” is a 487-yard downhill par 4 with water guarding the green and a tremendous view of the San Francisco Peaks in the distance. “No. 18 is extremely dramatic,” Morrish said. There is also an 85-yard 19th hole, a short wedge shot to an island green for settling bets.
Camp Pine Canyon (scheduled to open in 2008) is a facility that will feature a Club House for children. It includes locker rooms and bathrooms, an outdoor play area, junior sized pool and kids’ pool--everything imaginable that kids love. Two tennis courts are also part of the complex.
Trout Creek Park, stretching over 900 feet, will thrill fisherman and water-lovers with its system of ponds, lakes and streams stocked with rainbow trout. Hiking, biking and exploring are just beyond the community. A short two-mile hike leads to dramatic Walnut Canyon and miles of trails on Federal Forest Service land. Sedona, the Grand Canyon, Lake Powell, the Painted Desert and Petrified Forest are a short drive away.
Real estate options are still available, but not for long. Creekside Village, an enclave of 92 single-family semi-custom residences, is selling quickly. Floor plans range from 2,384 to 3,310 square-feet. Standard features make an impressive statement with stone-faced fireplaces, hardwood flooring, and custom cabinetry and granite countertops. Spacious master suites on both the main and upper levels make it easy to relax and enjoy the good life. The high-quality features make a notable difference as well: choice of tile flooring, vaulted living room ceilings, whirlpool tub in the master suite, kitchen and bathroom fixtures and stainless steel Jenn-Air appliances.
Real estate prices start from the high $300’s or low $400’s. Golf memberships, which are sold separately, are available for a $100,000 membership deposit. If families prefer the many recreational and social activities afforded at the Clubhouse, they may acquire a Sports Membership for use of the pool, spa and fitness center, tennis courts, many social events and other amenities.
